The Swedish Armed Forces

The Swedish Armed Forces are one of the nation’s largest authorities. Its task is to be responsible for Sweden’s military defence. The Swedish Air Force, part of this authority, is tasked with organising and training aircraft units and base and command units and completes its tasks by means of fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. These tasks include protecting Swedish airspace, conducting rescue operations, performing air transport duties, and gathering intelligence.

FMV

FMV, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, is a civil authority. Its mission is to deliver defence logistics to the key partner, the Armed Forces. As the procurement agency for defence material FMV has a key role related to aeronautics in Sweden.

FOI – the Swedish Defence Research Agency

FOI is the largest research organization in Sweden but is also formally a government agency. It was created in 2001 through the merger of FOA (Swedish Defence Research Establishment) and FFA (The Aeronautical Research Institute of Sweden) and has about 1000 employees. In the aeronautics area FOI is active in basic disciplines like aerodynamics, aeroelasticity, structures and materials, flight mechanics, and autonomy. FOI also runs an air combat simulation center for the Swedish air force. Furthermore FOI is partner in interdisciplinary research projects and in many international research cooperation projects.

LFV

The LFV Group is a state owned enterprise with approximately 1,200 employees that operates air navigation services for civil and military customers at 26 locations in Sweden. The head office is located in Norrköping. Operation and ownership of government airports for civil aviation was formerly part of LFV, but they were transferred on 1 April 2010 to the newly formed government company Swedavia. The Air Safety Authority, formerly part of the LFV, was separated 1 January 2005 and formed the Civil Aviation Authority whose activities since 2009 has been transferred to the newly formed Swedish Transport Agency.

The Swedish Transport Agency (aviation)

The Swedish Transport Agency, established 1st of January 2009, is working to achieve good accessibility, high quality, secure and environmentally aware rail, air, sea, and road transport. We have overall responsibility for drawing up regulations and ensuring that authorities, companies, organisations and citizens abide by them. The Civil Aviation and Maritime Department formulates regulations, examines and grants permits, as well as assessing civil aviation with particular regard to safety and security.

Vinnova

Vinnova is Sweden’s innovation agency working under the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation. The mission is to promote sustainable growth by improving the conditions for innovation, as well as funding needs-driven research. Vinnova promotes collaborations between companies, universities, research institutes, and the public sector. We do this by stimulating a greater use of research, by making long-term investment in strong research and innovation milieus and by developing catalytic meeting places. Vinnova’s activities also focus on strengthening international cooperation. Every year Vinnova invests about SEK 2.7 billion in various initiatives. Vinnova, the Swedish Energy Agency and Formas collaborate on the venture Strategic Innovation Programmes.

The Swedish Energy Agency

The Swedish Energy Agency works for the use of renewable energy, improved technologies, a smarter end-use of energy, and mitigation of climate change. The agency is working under the Ministry of the Environment and Energy. Vinnova, the Swedish Energy Agency and Formas collaborate on the venture Strategic Innovation Programmes.

Formas

Formas – the Swedish Research Council – is a government agency under the Ministry of the Environment and Energy. The mission of Formas is to promote and support basic research and needs-driven research in the areas Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning. Vinnova, the Swedish Energy Agency and Formas collaborate on the venture Strategic Innovation Programmes.
