NRIA Flyg 2024 is complemented by a number of supplements. You can find these here.
NRIA Flyg 2024 is the fifth joint national strategic research and innovation agenda for Sweden’s collective aeronautical technology players. Previous agendas were published in 2010, 2013, 2016 and 2020.
NRIA Flyg 2024 clarifies the connection between the societal challenges we face, the goals we set to meet them and how we work to achieve the goals. In short, it is about us identifying three mega-challenges: climate change, the deteriorating security situation and geopolitics, and accelerated technological development – new applications.
On an overall level, Innovair is well equipped to meet these challenges because our operations have so far been focused on (civilian) working to achieve international goals for climate-neutral aviation and (military) strengthening Swedish defense and security capabilities. We have done this in a way that creates national growth and exports, in both aeronautical technology and other industries.
In addition to increasing demands for climate sustainability and a changed security situation with increased international cooperation, what is new is that accelerated technological development is becoming increasingly important for the fulfillment of our overall goals. The agenda is about what opportunities we see in these areas and how we can work to maintain and strengthen our national position as an aviation innovator.
The most important messages in NRIA Flyg 2024 are summarized in our six recommendations:
- Ensure a continued coordination function for Swedish aeronautical research and innovation, and initiate an associated foresight group.
- Fund core activities and the ability to meet new technologies.
- Strengthen the efforts to increase diversity and attract young people and women to science and technology.
- Increase collaboration, nationally and internationally.
- Increase SME participation in Swedish aeronautical innovation.
- Enable production of sustainable fuels.
The agenda has been compiled by key individuals from universities, institutes, companies, interest organizations and authorities (ACS, Chalmers, Swedish Armed Forces, Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, Swedish Defence Research Agency, GKN Aerospace, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Linköping University, NFFP, Saab, SARC, Swedish Air Transport Society as well as SMEs and arenas) under process management by Innovair.
The official presentation of NRIA Flyg 2024 took place at Aerospace Almedalen on June 26, 2024.
