International aeronautics innovation
Horizon 2020 (H2020) is EU’s eighth frame programme, the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over seven years (2014–2020) – in addition to parallel private investment. The aim is to enable innovation by taking great ideas from the research lab to the market.
Aeronautics research within Horizon 2020 is included under the challenge Smart, Green and Integrated Transport. This challenge aims to boost the competitiveness of the European transport industries and achieve a European transport system that is resource-efficient, climate-and-environmentally-friendly, safe and seamless for the benefit of all citizens, the economy and society.
The main aeronautics part of H2020 prioritizes the continuation of the two major Joint Technology Initiatives of Clean Sky and SESAR, while funds for more basic research are significantly reduced compared to the Seventh Framework Program (FP7).
