When Sweden’s collective aerospace research expertise gathered at Swedish Aerospace Research Center’s (SARC) annual meeting, one thing became clear: the future of aviation demands more than cutting-edge research – it requires collaboration, speed, and clear direction.
SARC brings together five of Sweden’s top technical universities and research organizations, serving as a hub, an interface, and a voice for Swedish aerospace research – a fast track in an era when time itself is a critical factor.
Students and researchers from Chalmers, LTU, LiU, LU, and KTH presented ideas and solutions in next-generation aircraft design, sustainable fuels, thermoacoustic, and uncrewed systems.
With both students and former Air Force commander on stage, this year’s meeting served as a powerful reminder that science, policy, and industry must move in sync. And the message was about more than technology – it was about developing people.
Voices from the day:
“We must turn research into solutions. We need innovation in the broadest sense possible.”
– Alma Jacobson, Vinnova
“We face two major challenges – war and climate change. You need a full spectrum of research. Shift your focus. Work as a team.”
– Mats Helgesson, Chair of NFFP and former Air Force commander
“Innovation happens on many levels at the same time.”
– Ola Isaksson, Chalmers
“We help students connect their knowledge.”
– Emilia Villani, ITA/Brazil
“We aim to maintain Sweden’s strong position in the aerospace industry.”
– Felix Djärv, student, Chalmers
SARC’s role as an accelerator and the voice of Swedish aerospace research was further reinforced in the closing words:
“SARC is more than a network – it’s a true collaboration.”
– Chris Atkin, University of East Anglia
“Now you need to take SARC to the next level – from great to fantastic.”
