NEW PODCAST FROM SAAB AND IMPERIAL COLLEGE

By Internationalisering, Saab Aeronautics, Övrigt

SAAB AND IMPERIAL COLLEGE LONDON LAUNCH ZERO PRESSURE PODCAST WITH A DISCUSSION ON SPACE IN 2050 BETWEEN THE FIRST BRITISH AND THE FIRST SWEDISH ASTRONAUT

Saab and Imperial College London are launching the Zero Pressure Podcast, which will examine how science and technology are playing a leading role in solving the complex, interrelated global challenges we face both now and in the future.

The Zero Pressure Podcast will be hosted by Helen Sharman CMG OBE, the first British astronaut. Helen will welcome pioneering minds to the discussion and jointly with them explore topics on the cutting edge of science and technology.

Conceived of by Saab and the Institute for Security Science and Technology at Imperial, the podcast series will have a particular focus on security. It will look at protection for individuals, nations and the whole Earth from both cyber and physical threats, with the discussion spanning from space and aerospace to deep ocean technology.

In the first episode, Helen will welcome Christer Fuglesang, who became the first Swedish astronaut in December 2006 when he flew as Mission Specialist on the Space Shuttle Discovery’s voyage to the International Space Station. Now a professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Christer will share some of his experiences and views on the future of space exploration, security in space, and much more.

The Zero Pressure Podcast will also shine a spotlight on how science and technology can support global resilience and enable greater social and environmental good, over the long-term. The role ground-breaking technologies can play in addressing and solving the global challenges of today and tomorrow will be a central theme of the podcast series. And the insights and experiences of the thinkers and doers who are leading the way in developing these technologies will feature throughout.

GKN Aerospace – hydrogen propulsion system for aircraft

By Internationalisering, Innovair, GKN Aerospace, Övrigt

GKN Aerospace leads development of ground-breaking hydrogen propulsion system for aircraft

GKN Aerospace will lead a ground-breaking UK collaboration programme, called H2GEAR, to develop the company’s first hydrogen propulsion system for sub-regional aircraft. Hydrogen is expected to play a key role in the decarbonisation strategy of aviation as it can power aircraft efficiently, leaving water as the only by-product. H2GEAR puts GKN Aerospace at the heart of the technology developments needed for the future of more sustainable aviation. The technology will first focus on significantly improving sub-regional aircraft hydrogen powered performance, in turn enabling applications on larger aircraft and longer journeys. The programme is supported by £27M of ATI funding, matched by GKN Aerospace and its industrial partners.

H2GEAR aims to develop a liquid hydrogen propulsion system for sub-regional aircraft that could be scaled up to larger aircraft. Liquid hydrogen is being converted to electricity within a fuel cell system. This electricity efficiently powers the aircraft, eliminating CO2 emissions. This would create a new generation of clean air travel, eliminating harmful CO2 emissions.

NLR free Webinar February 4 – The future is Circular

By Internationalisering, Akademi/SARC, Innovair, Vinnova, Övrigt

NLR Webinar – The future is Circular – Closing the loop in aviation
February 4th, 12:30-13:30 CET

To achieve truly sustainable aviation, emissions and use of resources over the whole lifecycle of an aircraft must be taken into account, in line with the principles of a circular economy. Royal NLR is aiming to do just that over the coming years, thereby helping to design the first circular aircraft. During the ’Week of the Circular Economy’, NLR will organise a free webinar on this topic.

Programme:

Welcome by Paul Eijssen – NLR
Opportunities for aviation in the circular economy by Prof. David PeckTechnische Universiteit Delft
What is a circular aircraft? by Charlotte Meerstadt – NLR
Ambitions in circularity within EREA and NLR by Ligeia Paletti – NLR

VINNOVA har publicerat SIP-utvärderingen 2020

By Demonstration, Internationalisering, Akademi/SARC, Clean Sky/Clean Aviation, Innovair, GKN Aerospace, Saab Aeronautics, Arenor/SMF, Vinnova, Övrigt

By Internationalisering, Akademi/SARC, Övrigt
